OrthoSC’s Dr. Justin Brothers Completes 1,000th Surgery Using Velys System
The team at OrthoSC is celebrating the 1,000th Velys robotic joint replacement milestone for Dr. Justin Brothers. The DePuy Synthes Velys robot was the first of its kind in the state and the first outpatient joint replacement system in the area. Patients experiencing chronic joint pain are encouraged to call 843-353-3460 to schedule an appointment at OrthoSC. Dr. Brothers is available to see patients in Carolina Forest at 210 Village Center Blvd.
Dr. Brothers is a fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon who has been offering area patients knee replacement using the Velys system since 2021. The advanced system enables surgeons to tailor each procedure to the unique needs of the patient. During surgery, the robotic technology and integrated operating platform enhance precision by optimizing cuts and implant placement. This approach safeguards vital structures, minimizes soft-tissue damage and ensures accurate alignment and balanced joint function.
In addition to relieving the daily symptoms of severe knee damage from arthritis, the Velys Robotic-Assisted Solution at the state-of-the-art Carolina Bone & Joint Surgery Center offers patients a number of benefits, including:
- Potentially less pain and faster recovery than traditional joint replacements.
- Tailored surgical plans based on personal anatomy and accurate, streamlined measurement data for better joint stability.
- State-of-the-art joint replacement technology in the outpatient surgery center offers safety and efficiency with avoidance of hospital exposure.
“It’s exciting and humbling to reach this milestone as a surgeon because it means so many lives have been changed for the better by this treatment and this technology,” said Dr. Brothers. “As a team, all of us at OrthoSC strive only for the best possible outcomes for every individual we serve.”
Dr. Brothers is a graduate of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Geisinger Health in Danville, Pennsylvania, and completed an adult joint reconstruction fellowship at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
