About
Dr. Peter Ramsey received his bachelor of science degree at Duke University and continued on to obtain his medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Upon completion of his medical degree, Dr. Ramsey underwent an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center. After finishing his residency, he completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction and joint replacement at Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Alexandria, Virginia.
Dr. Ramsey has extensive experience in direct anterior total hip replacement, having pioneered the minimally invasive procedure in the Grand Strand region over a decade ago and performing this surgery nearly 5,000 times. Recently, he was profiled on his use of Artificial Intelligence in hip replacement surgery. He utilizes this expertise and experience to educate other surgeons by traveling to lecture and lead lab sessions, and he occasionally hosts other surgeons locally who are interested in learning these techniques in person. Dr. Ramsey also uses the latest computer-assisted and robotic-assisted techniques in total knee replacement.
Dr. Ramsey helped to lead the evolution of total joint replacement in the Grand Strand into its new era. As the first fellowship-trained reconstruction specialist in the region, he founded the Joint Replacement Program at Conway Medical Center in 2009 and has since led the migration of these life-changing procedures from the hospital setting to the more specialized orthopedic Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). His keen interest in outpatient surgery puts him at the cutting edge of his specialty, performing well over 90% of his surgeries in the ASC, where patients are meticulously prepared and then optimized to go home within hours of receiving their new joint.
Dr. Ramsey previously served as President of Coastal Orthopedics and OrthoSC, and he was the founding Medical Director for the Joint Replacement Program at Conway Medical Center.
When not taking care of patients, Dr. Ramsey enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and going to the beach. He is married, lives in Myrtle Beach, and is the proud father of two sons and one daughter. He also stays active through golf, tennis, and getting outdoors.
Dr. Ramsey was voted "Best Orthopedic Surgeon" in the 2020 Carolina Forest Chronicle Readers' Choice Awards.
Dr. Ramsey is available to see patients in need of hip, knee, and joint replacement care at our North Myrtle Beach office.
