Ultrasound
To aid in diagnosing medical conditions of the musculoskeletal system, OrthoSC provides ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography. This nonoperative procedure involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of the inside of the body. Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation (as used in X-rays). Ultrasound imaging is typically used to diagnose:
- Abnormalities of the muscles
- Bleeding or other fluid collections within the muscles, bursae, and joints
- Early changes of rheumatoid arthritis
- Small benign and malignant soft tissue tumors
- Tendon tears
