Sonia Lyons, O.T.R./L., C.H.T.
About
Sonia was born in Québec, Canada, and grew up speaking French. She graduated in 1996 from Laval University with a Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy. After graduating, she moved to Florence, South Carolina, where she took her first position as an occupational therapist. Shortly after, Sonia was hired as a traveling therapist, which allowed her to travel all over the country. She landed in Southern California, where she had many opportunities to work with experienced hand therapists and loved the world of hand therapy.
Sonia became a certified hand therapist (CHT) in 2003 and has been blessed since then to be able to help people regain the function of their upper extremities following an injury or surgery. Over the last 27 years, Sonia has attended several hours of continuing education, conferences, and splinting workshops to improve her skills and knowledge of the upper extremity. She has also had the privilege to work in close collaboration with several hand surgeons over the years, and specifically with Dr. Putman, Dr. Leak, and Dr. Everman over the last eight years.
Sonia has been married for 24 years and has two beautiful daughters. She obtained her U.S. citizenship in 2011. She is so thankful and grateful to be able to do what she loves and help people to give them hope when going through a difficult time. Her favorite life scripture is Ephesians 2:20, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared, that we should work in them.”
