Dr. Tyler Noble First in the Region to Offer Smart Knee Implant
Dr. Tyler Noble, fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement surgeon at OrthoSC, is the region’s first surgeon to offer knee replacement using a smart implant. The implant, Persona IQ, offers insights and data unlike ever before for surgeons and patients alike to help improve short- and long-term outcomes. Providing consultation and care at 2376 Cypress Circle, Suite 300, Dr. Noble offers this innovative treatment to patients meeting certain criteria. Area residents experiencing chronic knee pain are encouraged to call 843-353-3460 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Noble at OrthoSC.
The Persona IQ implant features a sensor technology that records and wirelessly transmits a wide range of gait data from the knee implant to a patient’s personal base station at home. The technology in the implant is comparable to the technology that has been used in pacemakers for the last 20 years and does not record private data, such as location. The data is then securely delivered to a HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based platform and can be accessed by the patient and their surgeon. Persona IQ will work together with mymobility, a remote care management platform that tracks pre- and postoperative mobility metrics.
"We're really thrilled to introduce Persona IQ, the world's first smart knee implant, to our patients who are thinking about knee replacement surgery. This groundbreaking innovation gives us access to real-time kinematic data straight from the implant after surgery," said Dr. Noble. “This means any potential issues or complications can be detected and addressed early, leading to better outcomes for patients.”
Dr. Noble earned his medical degree at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at WellSpan Health York Hospital in Pennsylvania. He went on to gain an exclusive fellowship at Florida Orthopaedic Institute and Tampa General Hospital, where he completed a year of additional specialized training in adult joint reconstruction.
